As a diehard bloody mary girl, and a long time lover of the martini, I felt a mashup of the two was long overdue. This cocktail takes everything you love about a bloody: spicy, tomato-y vodka, and boils it down to its most essential parts, resulting in a more refined beverage: the tomato martini. A mixture of olive brine, pickled hot pepper brine, and bread and butter pickle brine (this is not the place for dill pickles!), gets infused into freshly grated and strained raw tomato juice. A word to the wise: use only peak summer ripe juicy tomatoes for this beverage, or you’ll be sorely disappointed. The tomato has to shine here, and a winter tomato never does.
